KNAPPING NEW MEXICO
Welcome to Knapping New Mexico.

Here you will find a little bit about a few of us that are crazy enough to sit around and break rocks for fun.  We try to get together occasionally, and there are active groups in Albuquerque, Portales and Odessa.  You will find upcoming events on the Events-Meetings page.

Learn to make your own knapping tools on the Make Your Tools page or watch some youtube videos on flint knapping.

If you would like to learn more or have something of interest to share then please send me an email.

Best,

Primitive Technology - A Book of Earth Skills
From the Society of Primitive Technology - Edited by David Wescott
This is without a doubt one of the best primitive skill books I've ever read.  Did you know you could use a leather thong to propel an arrow almost as fast as a bow?  Know the recipe for hide glue?  Make your own yucca sandals.  There is so much in this book that you just don't usually see in other primitive skills books.

248 pages packed with everything from mummy varnish to the hazards of roadkill.  A list of chapter headings include 1) Primitive Technology  2) Fire  3) Bone, Stone & Wood  4) Fibers
5) Projectiles  6) Art & Music  7)  Appendix.

Loaded with photos and drawings, the authors provide step by step procedures for every article.  This is not some vague description but is an actual hands on, do it yourself manual.
ISBN  - 0-87905-911-7
From the back cover -

Living in modern society, we have become increasingly disassociated from the earth, from the essence of ourselves, and the need is awakened in us to return to the wilderness --physically and emotionally.  We long to feel a sense of connection with our ancient roots.  This urge is what has prompted man's fascination with primitive skills:  producing objects from natural materials using methods similar to prehistoric cultures.
